Keyline print business management software "no diesel with electric motor"

The printing house Medus in Merano (South Tyrol) was in the same situation as many other printing companies: While production was continuously modernized, the management sector had hardly been considered in this respect. The implementation of the Keyline print business management software from Zaikio has put an end to inefficient processes at Medus.

Andreas Gögele, Managing Director of Druckwerkstatt Medus, was quick to realize that digitization was imperative: "Over the past ten years, the administrative workload has continued to increase – no wonder if you process more than 3,000 jobs per year instead of the previous 1,000. This is simply not possible with Excel tables and calculators.

The family business with 15 employees primarily serves customers from the tourism sector and agencies. The fleet of machines consists of a Heidelberg SM 52 and a Heidelberg XL 75 – the latter, says Gögele, is flexible and also processes thick substrates, for example for the packaging sector. In the digital printing sector, a Canon ImagePress C700 and a Kodak NexPress are on duty. According to Gögele, finishing such as die cutting, staple and adhesive binding as well as foiling are an important element of the value chain.

Management area was neglected

Compared to modern production, the management area was a stepchild for a long time. Although Medus already had an MIS solution in place, this was not able to map the current requirements. As Gögele explains: "Today, data must be constantly passed on and updated, traditional applications reach their limits – and then work preparation becomes a bottleneck. We were looking for a system that is faster, covers everything and allows for fast updates to jobs".

While searching for a new system, Andreas Gögele finally came across Keyline and remembers: "I liked the usability and design of the application right away. You can feel it's a new development – a newly developed electric vehicle like the Tesla is something different from a diesel car that has been upgraded with an electric motor.

Always up to date on profitability

Gögele particularly appreciates the logical and clear presentation of orders and that the team does not always have to search for less frequently used features. Comparison calculations between offset and digital printing can be carried out quickly and easily – so Medus always knows how a job can be produced profitably.

Cloud especially now an advantage

For Gögele, Keyline running in the cloud is a gain: "Especially now, when orders are lost in times of the pandemic, it's good not to have to bother with IT problems on top. We want to print and not worry about computers".
